Deep-sea expedition in Japan and Kamchatka
Four SOSA/Senckenberg researchers were invited by AORI (Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute) colleagues to participate in the recent Hakuho-Maru deep-sea expedition. The Japanese vessel spent 3 weeks exploring both the Japan and Kuril-Kamchatka trenches on the east coast of Japan. Researchers collected samples to learn more about the new and existing deep-sea species in these trench ecosystems.
